If you want an accounts job, the best computer course for B.Com students in Kolkata is Tally Prime with GST, taken alongside Advanced Excel. If you prefer working with numbers and reports, our 6-month Data Analytics course is the stronger pick. BBA students choose from the same list and add Digital Marketing, while BA students usually start with a computer basics course and then move into graphic design, UI/UX or digital marketing.
This matches what students of each stream join at our Baguiati centre. Freshers from these courses typically start at ₹10,000 to ₹18,000 a month in Kolkata, depending on the field.

The short answer
- B.Com: Tally Prime with GST plus Advanced Excel for accounts jobs; Data Analytics for data and MIS roles.
- BBA: the same options, with Digital Marketing for marketing and sales roles.
- BA: CCA or DCA for computer basics, then Graphic Design, UI/UX Design or Digital Marketing.
- No computer background: OfficeSmart first, then Advanced Excel.
Why a degree alone is not enough
The India Skills Report 2026 rated 62.81% of commerce candidates and 55.55% of arts candidates employable, from more than 1,00,000 candidates who sat its employability test. Put the other way, more than one in three commerce candidates and close to half of arts candidates did not clear the bar.
Our placement team hears the same five requests from Kolkata employers hiring freshers:
- Excel data entry and MIS reports
- Clear, correct emails
- Confident phone calls with clients
- Using AI tools for emails and daily work
- Spoken English
A degree teaches none of these directly. The right computer course for B.Com students, BBA students or BA students covers Excel, email and AI tools, and our Spoken English course helps with calls and interviews.

B.Com students: accounts, taxation and data
Most B.Com students who come to us want accounting and taxation work, so the first computer course for B.Com students on that path is Tally Prime with GST. It runs for 20 weeks across three levels, from vouchers and financial statements to GST returns such as GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, TDS and E-Way Bills. Payscale’s average for Junior Accountants in Kolkata, ₹1,50,151 a year (updated September 2025), sits inside the ₹12,000 to ₹18,000 a month our Tally freshers start at.
Advanced Excel is the course to take alongside it. In 8 weeks it covers XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, pivot tables and MIS dashboards, the Excel work an accounts team does next to Tally every day.
If you enjoy reports more than ledgers, choose Data Analytics instead. Over the last 12 months, about 40% of our Data Analytics students were B.Com or BBA, and roughly 90% of the students who needed placement were placed. Employers included Titan, Bandhan Bank, PwC and TCS. Our guide to the online vs offline data analytics course explains why we teach it only in the classroom.
BBA students: the same base, plus marketing
BBA students usually join the same courses as B.Com students, because finance and operations roles lean on Tally and Excel. The extra option is Digital Marketing, a 12-week course covering SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads for Facebook and Instagram, Canva and Google Analytics. Freshers from it typically start at ₹12,000 to ₹18,000 a month in Kolkata, the same band as accounts roles.
Pick Digital Marketing if you would rather run a brand’s Instagram page than its books. Pick Tally or Data Analytics if numbers are what you enjoy.
BA students: computers first, then a creative path
BA students often reach us with little computer practice, so the first step is a basics course. Our sister institute in Baguiati, Shashank Skills Academy, runs CCA (6 months), covering MS Office, internet and email, ChatGPT and other AI tools, and Google Workspace. Its DCA (1 year) adds Advanced Excel, web basics, Photoshop and Tally Prime.
After that, three paths suit most BA students. Graphic Design is our longest creative course at 48 weeks: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, CorelDRAW and Canva, ending with 10+ portfolio projects. UI/UX Design takes 12 weeks and uses Figma, Adobe XD and Miro to design app and website screens. Digital Marketing suits BA students who write well and follow social media closely.
Design freshers start lower, at ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 a month in Kolkata, and design employers judge the portfolio before the certificate. If you want both design skills, the Diploma in Graphics & UI UX Design combines them.
No computer background? Start here
If you have never built a spreadsheet or attached a file to an email, start with OfficeSmart. It runs for 12 weeks and covers Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs, Sheets and Drive, so every later course starts from solid ground. Advanced Excel comes next, and after that you can choose any course in the table.
This is also the right first computer course for B.Com students who have only ever used a phone. Starting with the basics adds three months, but it saves you from struggling through a 20-week Tally course without them.
How to choose in five steps
Run these five steps before you pay any institute, ours included.
Name the job you want
Write down one job title, such as Junior Accountant or Social Media Executive. A course is only “best” for a specific job.
Read ten real job posts
Search that title on job portals for Kolkata and note the tools each post asks for. Tally, Excel, Canva and Figma appear by name.
Fill the basics gap first
If Windows, files or email slow you down, take OfficeSmart, CCA or DCA before anything else. A longer course goes faster once the basics are in place.
Pick a length you can finish
Match the course to your college timetable. Morning, evening and weekend batches let you study while in college.
Get placement support in writing
Ask what it includes and for how long: CV help, interview practice, interview calls. Ask which companies hired students from that course last year.
Three typical students
Illustrative profiles built from situations our counsellors hear often. The names are invented.
Sneha, B.Com second year, Dum Dum. Sneha wants an accounts job after graduation and attends a morning college.
Plan: Tally Prime with GST in an afternoon batch, then Advanced Excel before her final exams.
Aditya, BBA graduate, Rajarhat. Aditya already runs the Instagram page for a friend’s café and enjoys it more than accounts.
Plan: Digital Marketing in an evening batch, with Advanced Excel later if he needs to report campaign results.
Pooja, BA English graduate, New Town. Pooja sketches well but has never used Excel or Canva.
Plan: CCA at Shashank Skills Academy first, then UI/UX Design to build a portfolio of app screens.
Terms students ask about
Course ads and job posts use these terms all the time. Here is what each one means before you pick a computer course for B.Com students or any other stream.
CCA vs DCA
CCA (Certificate in Computer Applications, 6 months) covers computer basics, Office and AI tools. DCA (Diploma in Computer Applications, 1 year) adds Advanced Excel, web basics, Photoshop and Tally Prime. Both run at Shashank Skills Academy.
TallyPrime
The current version of Tally accounting software, which replaced Tally.ERP 9. Job posts usually just say “Tally”.
GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B
Two regular GST returns. GSTR-1 reports sales; GSTR-3B summarises the tax payable and the input tax credit claimed.
MIS report
A regular report, usually in Excel, that tracks sales, collections or stock for managers. MIS Executive is a common first job for commerce graduates.
Portfolio
A set of your best design work, usually as a PDF or website. Design employers ask for it before they call you for an interview.
Placement assistance
CV help, interview preparation and interview calls. It is support to find a job, not a job guarantee.
